Rajasuya yaaga

Mahabharata Sabhaparva Rajasuyika parva section 34

Sri Sadgurubhyoh Namah

After the four brothers of Yudhistir brought the kings on four sides under subjugation and brought immeasurable wealth, Rajasuya yaaga was commenced with the permission of SriKrishna. All the kings were invited, so are the kauravas. Brahmanas from all lands attended the sacrifice.

Dussasana was appointed to supervise food department for the invitees, Acharya Kripa to look after jewels and wealth, Duryodhana to recieve the gifts.

On the last day of sacrifice, Sage Narada sat along with other rishis, wondered at the assembly of Kings and through his insight thought of Narayana who has taken a human form of Sri Krishna, and who is going to be the end of all the assembled lot.

Narada addressed Yudhistir "O King, the preceptor, the sacrificial priest, the relative, the Snataka, the friend, and the king , these six are deserving of respect by offering Arghya if they stay for a period of 1 year. These assembled kings are staying here for quite sometime, and deserve to be offerend arghya, and let the foremost among kings be given arghya first. "

On hearing this Yudhistir asks Bhishma "Who among these is the foremost among them?" .

Bhishma replies "It is Sri Krishna who is foremost of all. As sun illuminates all, so is Sri Krishna illuminating all, so offer first arghya to him".

Yudhistir and Nakula then offer first arghya to Krishna and he accepts it. This was not acceptable to King of chedi, Sisupala.

He censures Yudhistir and Krishna, and says "How can Krishna become foremost of all, in age Bhihma is there, in knowledge aswathama is there, Duryodhana is there who is king of kings by-passing all why did you offer arghya to Krishna. It is to insult all the assembled kings." Sisupala then leaves the sabha along with his supporters.
