Ardha Chandra -- Half moon symbolism

We usually find Ardha chandra (Crescent) on the forehead of almost all Hindu gods, Especially Shiva, SriRajaRajeswari and Shakti, Ganapati.
What does this Crescent symbolise in Hinduism ?
I apologise for this amateur attempt to interpret the crown jewel of Hinduism.

Symbolism 1 : Turiya
OM is the original name of God. It has 4 padas which are relatively accessible for all humans.
Sound Aa, sound Vu, sound Umm constitute AUM. Fourth is Turiya. The crescent is actually moon on fourth day. and Crescent symbolises the fourth pada, Turiya.

Synbolism 2 : Srishti(Brahma) , stithi (Vishnu), laya (Maheswara), Devi (Supreme)
Aa = Brahma (Creation)
Vu = Vishnu (Sustaining)
Umm = Maheswara (Destruction)
Bindu = Devi (Supreme)

Symbolism 3: Waking state (Jagrat), dream state (Svapna), deep sleep state(Sushupti), Turiya (Devi, Atma, Paramatma)
The fourth , Turiya, Supreme, Atma, Brahman, Paramatma is symbolised by the crescent.

Symbolism 4:
Upward Crescent is the symbol for divine delight. Jnana or wisdom.
