Mahabharata Sabhaparva section 67-69
Sri Sadgurubhyoh Namah
The question raised by Draupadi is debated in the assemply, but nobody was able to determine whether Draupadi has been won lawfully.
Vidura declares his opinion "If Yudhistir has staked Draupadi before he loses himself, Draupadi would be considered as won. But Yudhistir lost himself first, making him a slave and he cannot stake anything as he lost all his possesions."
Karna then speaks many harsh words. To encourage Karna, Duryodhan then shows his left thigh to Draupadi. Bhima enraged at this takes a vow, " I will break the thigh of Duryodhan in battle, If I fail to do so I may not enter the region of Pitrs (ancestors)" .
Then there are seen many evil portents like a jackal howling, and donkey braying. Alarmed at this Dhritarastra in consultation with Vidura, then censures Duryodhan.
King Dhritarastra then talks to Draupadi in conciliatory tone, and says to her "I give you a boon, pls ask what you want". Draupadi asks for Yudhistir to be released from slavery. Dhritarastra then gives another boon to Draupadi, she asks for Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva to be released from slavery. When Dhritarastra asks Draupadi to ask for a third boon, she refuses saying "I cannot ask more than two, because a vysya can ask for one boon, a Kshatriya female can ask for 2 boons, a Kshatriya male can ask for 3 boons, and a brahman can ask 100 boons".
Karna then says 'These pandavas are saved by their wife'. Angered by this Bhima then says "O King Yudhistir, should I now kill all of them at your command ?". Arjuna pacifies Bhima.
Yudhistir then takes the leave of Dhritarastra and sets towards Indraprastha along with his brothers and wife Draupadi.
