Mahabharata Sabhaparva section 5-12
Sri Sadgurubhyoh Namah
Yudhistir sits beside sage Narada and entreats him to describe the different palaces that Narada visited and compare the Maya sabha that he is sitting in with them as Sage Narada can wander at will any region and any realm.
Narada then describes the palaces of Indra Lord of heaven, Lord of death Yama, Lord of waters Varuna, Lord of wealth Kubera and finally the Palace of Brahmaji the Grandsire of the universe, the creator.
Palace of Indra, King of Gods : Bright as lustre of sun. There is no weakness of age, grief, fatigue, and fear in the realm of Heaven. All the people who have done meritorious acts reach that abode.
Palace of Yama, Lord of death : Bright gold in color. Wheel of time, officers who count the days of beings, siddhas, saadhyas, brahmanas are present in that palace. sinners among people reach there. Also known as pitr loka, realm of ancestors.
Palace of Varuna, Lord of waters : Pure white palace, with celestial bowers full of different species of flowers and birds are present there. Mood there is extremely delightful. All the oceans, rivers, aquatic animals are found there.
Palace of Kubera, Lord of wealth : All the wealth of universe is found there. Goddess lakshmi stays there always. Lord Siva with Mata Parvati, Nandi, and Siva ganas stay there, as Kubera got a boon from Siva to have his friendship.
Palace of Brahmaji, Lord of creation : Narada once enquired about the house of Brahmaji with Aditya the sun god. As advised by Aditya, Narada does penance for 1000 years, at the completion of which, Aditya takes Narada to the palace of Grandsire Brahmaji. Narada describes to Yudhistir that it cannot be described in words. Language fails to describe its shape and size as it completely changes its form each moment. there is no hunger,thirst there and also any kind of uneasiness is not present. It is not supported by any columns, it is eternal. Grandsire stays there and creates everything by his power of creation (Maya).
One can find Intelligence, space, knowledge, air, heat, water, earth, sound, touch, form, taste, scent (five elements and five sensory organs) there. Nature, different forms of nature, primal cause of universe can be found with him. Wealth, religion, Desire, Joy, aversion, ascetism, and tranquility are found there attending upon Brahmaji. Four vedas, all sciences of knowledge, histories, all branches of minor learnings, Savitri (gayatri manra), understanding, patience, memory, wisdom, intelligence, Fame, forgiveness are personified there. Day, night, wheel of time, wheel of Dharma (righteousness / virtue) stay there. Whatever we see in the universe (mobile and immobile) is seen by Narada there.
Narada then tells Yudhistir that His palace is unrivalled in the realm of men, but Grandsire Brahmaji's palace is unrivalled in all worlds.
